FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University has announced the hiring of Wiktor Perkowski as its new head coach for the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs. Perkowski brings nearly a decade of collegiate experience to Fremont and a passion for fostering team culture and high-level performance.

“I’m incredibly excited to be part of Midland University and begin this new chapter,” said Perkowski. “From my first conversation with [Athletic Director] Courtney Thomsen, I felt a strong sense of support and vision for the future of the swimming program. This environment is the perfect place to grow something special.”

Perkowski comes to Midland after serving as the director of community health and recreation and head swim coach at Union Commonwealth University. In his time at Union, he coached an athlete to qualify for the 2024 U.S. Open Swimming Championships and led both the men’s and women’s teams with tailored training plans for all competitive levels. His leadership extended beyond the pool, overseeing community programming, aquatics events, and facility operations for the university.

Prior to his time at Union, Perkowski was an assistant coach at Milligan University, where he contributed to program development, recruiting, training plans, and event coordination. He also coached with NC State’s RedWhite Swim Camps and brings experience as a private coach and swim clinic organizer.

Perkowski is a five-time NAIA All-American and a three-time CSC Academic All-America Team selection as a student-athlete at Union. He holds a master’s in athletic administration, an MBA, and a bachelor’s in business management and marketing.

His short-term focus at Midland is to build relationships with current student-athletes and the local community.

“I want our athletes to feel supported and proud to represent Midland in and out of the pool,” Perkowski said. “Long term, I want to establish Midland as the top program in our conference and a nationally recognized team. I also want to make it a destination for Nebraska swimmers who want to thrive and enjoy their college swimming experience.”

Describing his coaching philosophy, Perkowski emphasizes care, accountability, and approachability.

“I’ve been involved in this sport for about 20 years, and I believe in its ability to shape not just athletes, but people,” he said. “I want to build a culture where our student-athletes grow into confident, resilient individuals who represent Midland with pride.”

Perkowski is certified as a USA Swimming Coach, Lifeguard Instructor, and Pool Operator, and he is fluent in both English and Polish.

He will begin leading the Warriors into the 2025-26 season this fall.
