Dodge County Republicans conducted a meeting Monday night at the Fremont Eagles Club.

Chairman Scott Eveland introduced Dodge County Sheriff Dustin Weitzel as the guest speaker. Weitzel gave an update on his department, staff and resources.

The sheriff noted that his staff currently includes 24 deputies with two vacancies. In the near future the current service dog will be retired for health reasons. Plans this summer are to acquire two new dogs at a cost of $13,500 each.  Donations have been made to cover the dog purchases.

Weitzel said the department serves 400-500 warrants and subpoenas per month. He added that drones, cameras and vehicle cameras are very essential to the DCSO.

Dodge County Board of Supervisors Chairman Bob Missel and county attorney Pam Hopkins added additional details on some of the topics. Guests included GOP Congressional District 1 Chair Loreen Reyante and Kathy Holkeboer, executive director of the Voter Information Project.

Party business included introducing the new Dodge County GOP Treasurer, Trevor Synovec. He will fill the unexpired term of Barbara Sheldon who moved to Texas.

Also announced were the substitutes for State Central Committeeman and Committeewoman John and Elaine Grothusen. They will not be able to attend the Nebraska GOP State Central Committee meeting in August. The substitutes are Laura and Scott Daugard.
