Myrna Clare (Wilberding) Niewohner, 87, of Fremont passed away, June 6, 2025, at Nye Pointe Health in Fremont.

She was born on October 21, 1937, to Anthony and Evelyn (Goecke) Wilberding in Carroll, Iowa. She spent her younger years in the Breda, Iowa, community and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School. Prior to her marriage, she was employed with Catholic Mutual Insurance in Omaha. On September 30, 1972, Myrna was married to Joseph E. Niewohner at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Omaha. They made their home on the farm east of Snyder. Joe preceded her in death in February of 2006.

Myrna held offices in St. Leo’s Guild and Dreamers Extension Club in Snyder. She also served on the Religious Adult Education Committee with her husband. After Joe’s death, Myrna resided at the Nye Square Retirement Community in Fremont for over 15 years before moving to Nye Pointe in 2021.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont, Catholic Daughters, St. Patrick Women and Fremont Area Ladies Club. Myrna volunteered at Fremont Methodist Hospital for more than 10 years.

Survivors include five step-children, Gary (Lois) Niewohner and Dennis (Jerlinda) Niewohner of Snyder, Tony (Stacy) Niewohner of Bennington, Melvin (Sue) Niewohner of Beemer, and Mary (Gary) Langhorst of Fremont; 15 step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Jennewein of Yankton, South Dakota, and Alice O’Brien of Carroll, Iowa; brothers, Edward Wilberding of Lincoln, Merle Wilberding of Dayton, Ohio, and Larry (Diane) Wilberding of Wesley Chapel, Florida; brother-in-law, Arthur Reiff of Carroll, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Myrna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe; parents; brother, Donald Wilberding; sisters, Marilyn Reiff and Evelyn Kropf; infant sister, Lois Wilberding; brothers-in-law, Richard O’Brien, Lonnie Kropf, and Bill Jennewein; sisters-in-law, Maureen Wilberding and Peggy Wilberding; nephews and nieces, Terry, Ted, Scott, Julie, and Craig Wilberding, Toni Ekiss and Barbara Whipple.

The funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. The visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Catholic Daughters Rosary said at 7, all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Leo’s Catholic Cemetery in Snyder.
