The Moo looked to wrap up the road trip with a victory over their Nebraska nemesis at Duncan Field, tthe home of the undefeated Hastings Sodbusters.
The scoring started immediately for the Moo. Carter Schellsmidt (Marshalltown CC) would start with a lead-off double. He would later score on a Michael Baker (Cal State-Chico) single and the offensive blitz would begin.
Brinden Floyd (RCSJ), Baker, and Luke Saxton (Missouri-St. Louis) would all reach and score to jump on Markus Miller, giving the Moo an early 4-0 lead.
Zach Vincent (Midland) would take the mound, opposite of Miller and would dazzle once again. Seven (7) innings, four (4) runs, six (6) hits, and five (5) strikeouts, setting a season high for Vincent.
The Sodbusters would plate a pair of runs in the first and a lone run in the third.
The top half of the fifth for the Moo would see theem score two runs. Brinden Floyd would cross the plate on a passed ball and Nikolai Wede (MSU-Mankato) would drive in Joshua Hardamon (Midland) to make it 6-3 Fremont.
The Sodbusters would put across a lone run the bottom half of the inning to make it 6-4.
The bats would fall silent for both sides as the score would remain in front until the ninth inning came around.
Carter Baete (Doane) would start the inning by relinquishing a single and double before Lucas Hamzeh (Midland) would enter in relief. A bloop single would allow a run to score to cut the Fremont lead down to one. A groundout would lead to the scond out but the tying run would score.
With two outs, Ryan Jarvis would hit a groundball to shortstop, Michael Baker would charge hard to field it but it would pop in and out of his glove. The winning run would score and Moo would fall 7-6 in the 9th.
The final line saw the Moo score six (6) runs on five (5) hits and committed two (2) errors. The Sodbusters scored seven (7) runs on nine (9) hits while committing three (3) errors. Hastings Brock Cross would get his first win of the season while Carter Baete picks up his first ILB loss.
