More than 200 people attended the Fremont Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday morning.
Fremont Mayor Joey Spellerberg read a proclamation on the significance of the holiday. Capt. Paul Young of the United States Navy was the featured speaker.
Young is a 1988 graduate of Fremont High School and a 1992 graduate of the University of Nebraska. He is a career Navy Surface Warfare Officer with about 33 years of service, including four command tours and numerous deployments supporting various operations.

He urged those in attendance to share their stories.
“Share your sacrifices and share the values that made you willing to sacrifice,” he said. “Share how precious life is and share how special the nation is. Teach others to cherish it the way we do.”
Young is currently the Commanding Officer and Professor of Naval Science at the University of Oklahoma.
The event also featured a KC-135 Flyover by the 155th Air Refueling Wing from Lincoln.
