The Dodge County Attorney’s Office has formally filed charges against Bryan Jeselink, 39, of Texas in connection with an April homicide and a related act of animal cruelty.

Jeselink has been charged with murder in the first degree, habitual criminal, use of a weapon to commit a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, unlawful discharge of a firearm, tampering with physical evidence, intentional cruelty to an animal, and false reporting.

The charges stem from an incident April 12 near North Bend. Authorities found Billie Meadows, 24, of Georgia in a field with multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to Methodist Fremont Health before being transferred to Nebraska Medicine in Omaha. She died from her injuries.

Authorities said that Jeselink and Meadows had been in a relationship for more than a year. They arrived in Nebraska about two weeks before Meadows’ death for work in the Columbus area.

“These are deeply disturbing allegations involving the unlawful taking of a human life and the cruel treatment of an animal,” Dodge County Attorney Pam Hopkins said. “Our office is committed to ensuring justice is pursued thoroughly and fairly in accordance with Nebraska law.”
