
Authorities are investigating a plane crash that occurred Friday night on the Platte River, just west of Hormel Park.
Officials said there are fatalities. Sgt. Brie Frank of The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office said authorities were notified regarding the crash at about 8:12 p.m.
“The reporting parties said they saw a plane go down and Dodge County deputies along with the Fremont Police Department, Fremont Fire Department, Fremont Rural Fire Department and several other agencies went to investigate what happened,” she said.
Frank said local officials are in contact with the Federal Aviation Administration. The Waterloo Fire Department recovery boat and airboats were patrolling the river Friday night. The Omaha Police helicopter and drones were also on the scene.
Frank said at this time officials don’t know what type of plane crashed or where the flight originated.
The DCSO is asking the public to avoid the area.
