SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) has announced its softball player and pitcher of- the week for contests played February 3-9, 2025. Midland University swept the season’s first awards with Alexis Shepherd earning GPAC Player of the Week and Paeton Coler earning Pitcher of the Week honors.
Shepherd, a freshman from Waverly, Nebraska, made a splash in her first week as a collegian. She went 6-for-11 (.545) with three home runs, a double, and six RBI as Midland won four games to start the year. Her second homer of the year was a game-winning, two-run homer as Midland battled back to beat (RV) Saint Xavier.
Coler, a senior from Norfolk, Nebraska, set a new career high for strikeouts in her season debut this week. She struck out 11 batters while pitching a complete-game shutout against Mount Mercy. She followed up with another win in the circle, going 4.1 innings with five more strikeouts to secure the victory over MidAmerica Nazarene. She is averaging 9.88 k/game with a 0.62 earned run average this season.
