JAMESTOWN, N.D. — Midland University returned to action this weekend, traveling to face (RV) University of Jamestown in a nonconference matchup. Despite a strong finish, the Warriors fell behind early and were unable to recover, losing 86-57 to the Jimmies.
The game began with both teams trading scores. After exchanging free throws and three-pointers, the game was tied at 5-5. Midland briefly took the lead with four points, but Jamestown’s Samantha Paulsen hit three consecutive three-pointers to give the Jimmies an 11-9 edge. A jumper by Leah Redding trimmed the deficit to one with 3:14 left in the first quarter, but Jamestown closed on an 11-0 run to lead 27-15 at the end of the period.
Three-pointers by Ellie Bovaird and Sarah Shepard helped cut the Jamestown lead to eight early in the second quarter. However, the Jimmies responded with another 11-2 run, extending their advantage to 40-23 with 4:35 remaining in the half. Midland found a few baskets before the break but couldn’t slow Jamestown offensively, entering halftime trailing 47-29.
The Warriors struggled to start the second half, going scoreless for the first 7:30 of the third quarter. Jamestown capitalized, pushing the lead to 65-29. Midland managed four points before the period ended, but the Jimmies carried a commanding 73-33 lead into the fourth quarter.
Bovaird led the way in the final period, scoring 15 of her game-high 21 points as Midland outscored Jamestown 24-13. The deficit, however, proved insurmountable, and the Jimmies secured the 86-57 victory.
Midland shot 19-of-55 (34.5%) from the field and 5-of-24 (20.8%) from beyond the arc, while Jamestown went 32-of-74 (43.2%) overall and 14-of-40 (35%) from three-point range. The Jimmies dominated the boards, outrebounding the Warriors 48-31, including 18 offensive rebounds to Midland’s seven.
Bovaird finished with 21 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Erin Foxhall led the Warriors on the glass with six rebounds and added 11 points. Redding and Zoey Sims contributed five rebounds each.
Midland (1-7, 1-3 GPAC) returns to conference play on Saturday, December 7, hosting Morningside (4-3, 2-2 GPAC). Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. in Fremont, Nebraska.
