Alberta Adeline Sick, 94, of Fremont died Friday, November 29, 2024, at Methodist Fremont Health.

Alberta was born February 23, 1930, on a farm outside Cedar Bluffs to Joseph and Lenora ‘Wittmershouse’ Hurt. The family moved to Hooper and Alberta graduated from Hooper High School in 1946. On October 3, 1947, she married Alfred Sick Jr. Alberta has been a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont since 1959. She was active in the church teaching Sunday School and Bible School, served as chairwoman of her church circle, served as secretary and later president of the Lutheran Church Women, sang in the choir, played handbells and worked many years on the funeral auxiliary committee.

Alberta was a lifetime member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) Alumni through Logan View High School. She volunteered for years as a guide and then Conductor on the Fremont and Elkhorn Valley Railroad (FEVR). She worked during Christmas time for more than 25 years at the Salvation Army, volunteered for many years with the Community Thanksgiving Dinner at Midland University. She was a member of the Methodist Fremont Health Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered helping people coming into the hospital and later in the gift shop.

Alberta loved to play bridge; she played almost every week for over 50 years. She also loved to dance, being a member of a local square dance group. Alberta loved Alfred very much and is rejoicing to be with him again for eternity.

Sons – David (Carolyn) Sick of Smithville, Missouri and Steven (Cindy) Sick of Fremont

Grandchildren – Kristien (Kenneth) Simons, Jr. of Blair and Emma Sick of Merriam, Kansas

Step grandchildren – Nikki (Chad) Beatty of Fremont and Amy Vyhlidal of Winter Springs, Florida

Great-grandsons – Raylan David Simons and Briggs Charles Simons

Step great-granddaughter – Emily Beatty

Sister – Beverly (Larry) Weishahn of Beatrice

Nieces and nephews

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred and brother Francis Hurt.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2024, at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the ‘Alfred Sick Jr. Agriculture Education Memorial Scholarship’ awarded annually at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
