The Silver Moon Band will perform a benefit show Saturday night for the local chapter of Disabled American Veterans at the Fremont Eagles Club.

Erin Eairleywine-Ganzel, a Fremont native who plays keyboards and sings in the band, said her connection to a family member led to the event. Her father-in-law, Craig Ganzel, is the president of the local DAV chapter.

“He is actually heading up this fundraising event,” she said.

The DAV helps in assisting veterans in filing claims with the department of veterans affairs for compensation, pension, healthcare and other benefits. They also assist disabled veterans connect with caregivers and help with transitional things like vocational readiness and employment benefits.

The Eagles Club, located at 649 Main Street, is a good venue for the show.

“If you haven’t been in there lately, they’ve redone their upstairs dance hall and it is really nice and a fun area,” Eairleywine-Ganzel said.

Doors open at 7 with the band scheduled to perform until 11 or 11:30 p.m. Cost is $8 at the door with those proceeds will directly benefit the DAV of Fremont.

The Silver Moon Band appears regularly at the Concert in the Park Series during the summer in Fremont. The five-piece band performs country music, classic rock and more.

“We play all sorts of stuff,” Eairleywine-Ganzel said. “There is something for everybody. We play a little modern and a little classic.”

Eairleywine-Ganzel joined the band about five years ago. She knew Eric Johnson, the group’s bass guitarist of Morse Bluff.

“Eric got me involved with (the band), but the group itself has been around for a long time, probably about 18 years,” she said, noting that it was founded by drummer Dave Smith of Arlington and guitarist Stan Schmedding.
