
Gov. Jim Pillen will conduct press conferences Wednesday at Structural Component Systems in Fremont and Cargill in Schuyler to celebrate Manufacturing Month.
The governor plans on highlighting the rapidly growing manufacturing industry in Nebraska. He will also discuss how businesses and schools are working together to help equip students for career opportunities.
The Fremont event will begin at 1:15 p.m. in the second floor training room at Structural Component Systems, 1035 E. Dodge St.
Pillen will be joined by Structural Component Systems Director of Human Resources Diane Mallette, Fremont Public Schools Superintendent Mark Shepard, Metro Community College President Randy Schmailzl and Todd Hansen, the associate vice president for community and workforce education at Metro.
The Schuyler event will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Cargill, 490 County Road 9 in Schuyler. Pillen will be joined by several officials, including Cargill General Manager Katrina Robertson and Schuyler High School Assistant Principal Samantha Ladwig.
Nebraska’s manufacturing employment is at its highest point in more than 20 years. In the second quarter of 2024, the state’s manufacturers contributed $21.6 billion to Nebraska’s (annualized) gross domestic product. That’s an increase of 57% over the past five years.
