
Vernon D. Poggensee, 97, of Fremont passed away, October 14, 2024, at the Pathfinder Place in Fremont.
Vernon was born June 3, 1927, in Randolph to Otto and Mabel (Beahr) Poggensee. He moved to Fremont in 1939 and graduated from Fremont High School in 1944. Vernon served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Vernon worked at Hormel Foods for 39 years before retiring in 1989.
Vernon married Dorothy Welty on July 11, 1948, in North Bend. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2020.
He was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. He was a church usher for many years. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 854 and American Legion Post No. 20 both in Fremont. Vernon took pride in maintaining his yard and his home. Vernon loved spending time with his family.
Vernon is survived by his daughters, Carol Thompson of Fremont and Denise (Tom) Ussery of Roseville, California; son, Ronald Poggensee of Reno, Nevada; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Gloria Thege of Fremont.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; three brothers, Edward, Melvin and Irvin; four sisters, Christine Poggensee, Irene Erhlich, Ruby Osborne, and Orleata Cades; two grandchildren, Michael and Jessica Ernstmeyer.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Mark Weber will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 18 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and continue one hour prior to the service at the Church on Saturday.
Burial with military honors will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be directed to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont.
