FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University hosted Briar Cliff University on Saturday evening in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup. The Warriors held a 1-0 lead at halftime before the Chargers responded with two goals in the second half to pull away for the 2-1 win.

Midland seized the early advantage in the first half when Rosa Schellmann delivered a throw-in to NaTaija Blaylock. She collected the ball and fired it into the back of the net in the 19th minute. That goal propelled Midland to the 1-0 lead at the break. Both teams registered an equal number of shot attempts at 4-4 and contested fouls at 5-5 after 45 minutes of play.

Following the break, the Chargers ramped up the offensive pressure and pulled even in the 79th minute. Keeping the aggressive play going, Briar Cliff took the lead in the 87th minute and held on for the 2-1 victory over Midland.

In the second half, BCU dominated with a significant edge in shot attempts, leading 10-3, with three shots on frame. Kyla Pires played the full 90 minutes in goal, picking up four saves on the night.

Midland (2-2-2, 2-2-2 GPAC) will travel to take on Hastings (11-1-2, 7-0-0 GPAC) next week. The teams will take to the turf at Lloyd Wilson Field on Wednesday, October 16 at 5:30 p.m.
