Bergan Catholic School informed the public today about a situation that took place in regards to student safety.
On Thursday, Bergan’s administration was informed by a student that there had been a threat
made by a student from another school toward the Bergan student over social media. This threat included gun violence toward the Bergan student that could possibly be taking place at the Bergan varsity football game against Yutan tonight in Fremont.
The Bergan administration immediately contacted the Fremont Police Department about the situation and an investigation was launched. The Fremont Police Department contacted the Omaha Police Department as the student making the threats attends a school there..
OPD conducted an investigation that determined that the threat was not viable and that the student making the threats did not have access to any firearms. Based on this information, the Bergan administration informed the school community that these threats were made over social media, but no one should fear for their safety based on the fact that the threat was deemed groundless through an investigation by law enforcement professionals.
Bergan President Dan Koenig said that there may be an increased presence from the Fremont Police Department and the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office at tonight’s game as well as the home game against David Aquinas on Oct. 4. He added there will be an increased law enforcement presence at the Bergan homecoming dance on Oct. 5.
Koenig said that the school’s law enforcement partners do not believe there is any threat to Bergan student safety, but they want to take all precautions to ensure the safety of students, staff and community members at the events the Knights are hosting.
Officials said if you have concerns about student safety or any questions about this situation to please contact the Bergan administration.
