
Alan Jack Naughton, 72, of Fremont passed away, Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont.
He was born March 6, 1952, in Alton, Illinois, to Jack and Ruth (Aulabaugh) Naughton. Alan graduated from Alton High School in 1970. He continued his education and got his Economics degree at Tarkio College in Missouri. Alan received his master’s degree at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Alan married Gloria Hampton on August 9, 1980, in Litchfield, Illinois. He taught at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois, from 1979 until 1980, before moving and teaching at Lamar College in Orange, Texas, for 5 years. Alan and Gloria moved to Fremont in 1985, and he was a professor of economics at Midland University for 28 years. He retired in 2013.
He was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church and former member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. He was a former church council member at both churches. Alan was a member of the American Economic Association and a former member of the boy scouts in his younger years. He loved history.
Alan is survived by his wife, Gloria of Fremont; son, Paul Naughton of Fremont; daughter, Mary Jean Naughton of Davenport, Iowa, and Diane Rose Naughton of Omaha; brothers, Robert (Elizabeth) Naughton of Houston, Texas, and Donald (Paula) Naughton of Litchfield Park, Arizona; and sister, Anne (Bill) Butler of Alton, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2024, at Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont. Rev. Al Duminy will officiate. Visitation will be from noon until service time, Friday, also at Sinai. Burial will be at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be directed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
