Scammers are making an attempt to retrieve the personal information of individuals under the guise of RVR Bank.
Customers and non-customers have received texts with a link asking for the personal information. Cindy Slykhuis, vice-president of marketing and community engagement at RVR in Fremont, said the bank would never make that type of request.
“What we would like people to know — what RVR Bank and all banks want you to know — is that we are not going to send out a text with a link for you to click,” she said. “If you get one of those texts, the best thing to do is to just delete it. If you do click onto the link just make sure you aren’t entering any of your information. If you do enter your information, you need to call the bank.”
Slykhuis notes that the bank is focused on protecting their customers from such scammers.
“What this particular scam is trying to do is that they want you to click on a link and put in your user name and password,” she said. “Then the scammers are taking that information and legitimately logging into your on-line banking and trying to transfer money out. The beauty of us being a community bank is that we’re quick and nimble and we’re able to take a look at the backside of our system to see if the transfer request going out is legitimate. We are really working hard right now to make sure that none of our customers see any kind of a loss.”
