Fremont native and former University of Nebraska at Kearney standout Wes Ferguson is getting ready for the U.S. Olympics Trials on Thursday in Eugene, Oregon.

Ferguson tells The Big Dog 1340 and 98.9 he continues to train by taking part in time trials.

“That is just a simulated race in practice with no other runners,” he said. “Whether that is at 90% or 95, or all out. Just something to keep the legs racing so they don’t lose track of momentum.”

Ferguson is fairly confident he has the right stuff to make it to Paris in in July running the 800 meters.

“It is a huge confidence booster just to be able to go out and do that against some of those guys so I feel really good,” he said.

The 800 first round and quarterfinals are set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday and will air on Peacock. If Ferguson is one of the top six in his heat, he will advance to the semifinals that will be Friday and air on Peacock and USA. Finals will be at 6:50 p.m. Sunday and will air on Peacock and NBC.
