FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University has removed the interim title and has officially announced Shea Bennett as the head coach of the Warriors baseball program. As the interim head coach in 2024, Bennett guided the team to a 33-19 record, including 16 wins in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). These achievements mark the highest number of conference victories since 2019 and the most overall wins since 2017.

“We are thrilled to officially name Shea Bennett as our head baseball coach,” said Courtney Thomsen, Midland University Director of Athletics. “His leadership and commitment to the program have been evident throughout his tenure. We are confident in his ability to continue building on the program’s successes.”

Bennett has been a part of the program since 2012 when he enrolled at Midland as a student-athlete. Following his playing career, he joined the coaching staff ahead of the 2018 season. As an assistant coach, Bennett oversaw the Warriors’ pitching staff and coached three All-GPAC pitchers and a total of eight all-conference players. In his first season as an assistant, Midland won the GPAC Postseason Tournament and picked up a pair of wins in the NAIA Opening Round.

“I am extremely honored to be named the next head coach at my alma mater, here at Midland,” Bennett said. “Love the group of guys we have here and can’t wait to get to work this fall. We have lots of really good coaches and really helpful staff here to help our program do special things. It takes a village but I am very proud to lead these student-athletes alongside our amazing group of assistant coaches.”

In addition to coaching the Warriors, Bennett coached the Nebraska Sluggers travel team and was the head coach for the Fremont Moo from 2019 to 2022. In his second season, he guided the team comprised of collegiate players from around the country to the 2020 Expedition League Championship and was named Coach of the Year.
