Bell Street Viaduct gets closer to re-opening

The Bell Street Viaduct is getting closer to re-opening.

Fremont Mayor Joey Spellerberg said Tuesday morning that he, like many local residents, is eager to see it open to traffic again.

“The final asphalt layer was completed last Thursday which was really good news,” he said. “Right now M.E. Collins (the contractors for the project) needs four rain-free days to shore that all up with the joints and the striping to get it ready to go.”

Spellerberg noted that there is some guardrail work that also needs to be completed.

“But that can happen after it is open,” the mayor said. “We’re hoping that the weather (cooperates). … We’re looking at late this week or early next week if the weather holds up.”
