The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded Nebraska affordable housing agencies $77.6 million in federal funds for housing choice vouchers.
The HUD funds will help 23 public housing authorities across the state, including in Fremont, with the rising cost of rent.
The Fremont Housing Authority was awarded $798,411. The Omaha Housing Authority received about $36 million while the Housing Authority of Lincoln received about $16 million. The Douglas County Housing Authority received $8,289,004.
In a press release, HUD Acting Secretary Adrianne Todman said the vouchers will offer more families the necessary relief they need to have continued access to safe, affordable housing options.
