Duane W. Krause, MD passed away Monday, January 29, 2024, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha. He was born to Aloys “Butch” Krause and Della (Meyer) Krause in Petersburg on Sept. 17,1938.

When Duane was 2, his family moved to Primrose where Duane graduated from Primrose Public High School in 1956. After a three-year tour in the U.S. Army, Duane met and married Helen Jean Carey from Petersburg, who was a nurse. Helen’s parents were Pat and Katherine (Kitty) Carey. Duane went to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for undergraduate study and then in 1967 graduated with an MD degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. They then lived in Stockton, California where Duane did a two-year medical internship. They were in Albion for one year of family practice medicine then moved back to Omaha where Duane completed a three-year residency in Radiology. Duane & Helen and their four sons, Timothy, Michael, Paul, and Thomas moved to Fremont in 1973 where Duane was Medical Director of the Fremont Area Medical Center’s Department of Radiology for 28 years. After raising their four sons, Helen opened and operated a lunch and tearoom in Fremont called, “Carey Cottage”.

He is preceded in death by his parents Butch and Della Krause, brothers Stanley, Aloys, and Francis Krause and two sisters, Joan and Marian Krause.

He is survived by his wife Helen, his four sons Tim (Kori Koglin) Krause, Mike, Paul (Connie Garfield) Krause and Tom Krause; three grandchildren KC (Beth Hall) Krause, Keegan (Caitlin Meyer) Krause and Patrick Krause, great-grandchildren Bronko, Shepherd and Felix Krause, as well as a brother Ronald.

Duane served as President of the Board of Education for St. Pat’s/Bergan School System and the St. Pat’s Parish Council. He served two terms as President of the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Alumni Association and served as President of the Nebraska State Radiology Society, the Nebraska Chapter of the AOA National Medical Honor Society, the Nebraska Association of Nuclear Physicians, the Rotary Club of Fremont, the Fremont Area Art Association, the Fremont Area Community Chest/United Way, the Dodge County Medical Society and the Fremont Area Medical Center Medical Staff.

Duane also served on the Board of Councilors for the Nebraska State Medical Association, the Nebraska Medical Foundation, and the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce. He was past member in the American Medical Association, American Society of Nuclear Physicians, American Radiology Society, and the Radiological Society of North America. He has published in state and national medical journals. Honors include Valedictorian of his graduating high school class, Fellowship in the American College of Radiology, Fremont Optimist Club’s Distinguished Service award, Fremont Knights of Columbus Distinguished Service Award, Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society, Psi Chi National Honor Fraternity in Psychology and the Delta Phi Alpha German Honor Society.

Memorial Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, May 10 at St. Patrick Catholic Church Fremont. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 9 with a K of C Rosary at 7, all at Moser’s in Fremont. Interment with Military Honors will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
