Eldean L. ‘Dean” Erickson

Eldean L. ‘Dean’ Erickson, 92, of Fremont died Friday, March 22, 2024, at Methodist Fremont Health.

Dean was born on August 4, 1931 in Garner, Iowa, to Oscar and Fern ‘Evanson’ Erickson. He graduated from Garner High School in 1949. During his high school years he attended Iowa Boys State and played football, basketball, and baseball. After graduating he attended Iowa State for one year before enlisting in the Air Force. During his enlistment he served as a control tower operator and served in Japan, Iwo Jima, and the Eniwetok and Bikini atolls. He also served at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha. Dean was discharged in 1954 and attended Omaha University, where he graduated in 1958 while majoring in business and accounting.

In 1959 he moved to Fremont and worked for Walter Witthoff & Co. He received his CPA certificate in 1961 and purchased the firm in 1978 where it moved to its present location under the name of Erickson & Brooks. He retired from there in 1999.

Dean married Sharon Pannier in 1959 and they shared 61 years of marriage together until she passed away on October 3, 2021. He served as director or officer at the Fremont YMCA, Fremont Industrial Corp., Fremont Chamber of Commerce, the Hospital Foundation, and the Big Brothers board of directors. Dean joined the Fremont Presbyterian Church in 1959 and served as a deacon and elder there. He also served as commander of the American Legion. Dean and Sharon were known for their love of boating, gardening, and traveling.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, daughter Christine Walker, parents Fern and Oscar Erickson

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Fremont Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel with the family present from 6 to 8. Memorials are suggested to The Fremont Presbyterian Church, Tunnel to Towers Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
