Surrounded by fellow first responders, Republican Dave “Woody” Wordekemper launched his campaign for the District 15 seat of the Nebraska Legislature Tuesday.
Wordekemper is a 29-year veteran of Fremont Fire and Rescue. He said if elected, he will prioritize public safety issues, find ways to reign in state spending, and work to lower the tax burden for all Nebraskans.
“I will be a strong, conservative voice for hardworking Nebraskans,” Wordekemper said. “I’ve been a public servant my entire adult life and understand the issues impacting the families of Dodge County and Valley. I look forward to working just as hard for those working families in the Legislature.”
Wordekemper was born and raised in West Point. He has served as a fire fighter/paramedic in Fremont for almost three decades. His wife, Barb, is a Registered Nurse and a Dodge County native. They have two grown sons and a granddaughter.
The Wordekempers are members of Saint Patrick Church in Fremont. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1497, a union officer with Fremont Fire Fighters Local 1015 and the vice president of the Nebraska Association of Fire Fighters.
Lynne Walz, the current District 15 state senator, is prevented from running for re-election due top term limits.
