Karl Bergmanis, 86, of Fremont died Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Methodist Fremont Health.
Karl was born August 2, 1937, on a farm outside Riga, Latvia to Karlis and Anna (Stenzenieks) Bergmanis. Wimmers Meats and the Lutheran Church sponsored the Bergmanis family to the United States in 1950. They settled in Snyder. He graduated from Snyder High School in 1956. Following school, Karl enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 and was stationed in Germany. Following his service, Karl settled in Fremont where he met the love of his life, Karen Charleston, while working at Stor-Mor. They married March 3, 1962, at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. Karl was employed by Hormel Foods for over 35 years.
Karl enjoyed fishing, watching Husker football and spending time with his family. His family and friends will dearly miss him.
Karl is survived by daughters, Tammy (TJ) Croft, Jane Perry; sons, Joey Bergmanis, and John Bergmanis; sister, Aina Legband of Fremont; sisters-in-law, Karen Charleston of Peoria, Arizona, Connie (Kurt) Chudomelka and Robin Charleston both of Fremont; great-grandchildren, Haley Wackel and Dakota Amrein; nephews, Ron (Sally) Legband, Mark (Chris) Legband both of Fremont and Mike Legband of Bellevue; nieces, Julie (Tony) Thurman of Overland Park, Kansas, and Sara (Brian) King of Paradise Valley, Arizona.
He was preceded by parents; wife, Karen (Charleston) Bergmanis; sons, James Bergmanis, and infant-son Michael Carl Bergmanis; granddaughter, Megan (Beaumont) Amrein; brother, Vilnis Bergmanis; and sister, Laima Bergmanis.
Funeral Mass was 10 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. Father Walter Nolte officiated. Visitation was 5 to 7 p.m. with a rosary starting at 7 Wednesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
Burial with military honors will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
