FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University has announced the hiring of Micah Rhodes as its full-time volleyball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. After a season where he served in a limited role, he was elevated to this position where he will be able to have a larger impact on the Warriors’ volleyball program.
Coach Rhodes joined the Midland staff in the spring of 2023 ahead of the fall season. Before that, he spent three seasons at Bellevue University where he served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Following the 2021 season, he was named the AVCA North Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year.
“I’m very happy to have Micah join our program in a full-time capacity,” commented head coach Paul Giesselmann. “He brings a wealth of knowledge having been a part of Creighton and UNO’s programs and also going back to his undergraduate days as a student manager and practice player with the Huskers’ volleyball program. Micah will be a huge asset with training and recruiting. I know our players are excited to have him around full-time to help us continue our standard of excellence with this program.”
Before coaching at Bellevue, Coach Rhodes was the director of operations at Creighton University (2019), was an assistant at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (2017-18), and was a volunteer coach at Creighton (2016). Additionally, he coached for four years at Buena Vista University (2012-16). Known for working with middle blockers, he has had several athletes earn conference and national honors under his tutelage.
“I am thrilled and honored to join the Midland volleyball staff as the program’s new assistant coach,” commented Coach Rhodes. “Over the past decade, Midland has established itself as one of the most competitive and successful NAIA programs, both in the GPAC and on a national scale. As a competitive person who strives for excellence, it’s an honor to be included in Midland’s rich tradition of athletic and academic success.”
“After my initial conversations with Coach Giesselmann about the program, it became immediately apparent that our coaching styles, philosophies, and training techniques, among other aspects, very much align,” added Rhodes. “I look forward to continuing my professional growth under his guidance and leadership, as well as helping the volleyball program continue to set a high standard of excellence. Go Warriors!”
Last season Midland went 18-12 and reached the NAIA National Tournament for the 10th time in program history. At the tournament, they advanced to the quarterfinals for the 7th time.
