Deer Pointe Elementary School, which will open next fall, recently unveiled its mascot, the Deer Pointe Dinos, recently to the student body.
Deer Pointe Elementary is a new preschool through 4th grade elementary school currently under construction in the Deer Pointe subdivision,
located near 23rd and Luther Road. The new elementary school will replace Clarmar Elementary that is located on 19th and Clarmar on the Fremont High School property.
Current Clarmar Elementary students had the opportunity to choose the mascot for the new building through a process that included identifying prospective mascots, narrowing the choices, creating ideas for the logos and ultimately voting.
The new logo was announced and introduced to the students and staff at an all-school assembly. The logo will be used as part of the branding of the new 540-student capacity elementary school.
“This has been an exciting process for the staff and students to participate in anticipation of the new building opening next fall,” Clarmar/Deer Pointe Principal Jason Chicoine said. “Personally, the Dinos were not my first choice but once the process started the decision was truly in the hands of the
students.”
Deer Pointe is one of three elementary school buildings currently under construction to replace buildings that originally opened in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Howard and Washington Elementary are the other two buildings currently under construction.
Both Howard and Washington are being re-built on their present sites. All three building are currently on time with an anticipated opening at
the start of the school year in late August.
