CRETE, Neb – Midland University traveled to Crete, Nebraska to take on Doane University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday evening. A first-half surge by the Tigers forced the Warriors to a tough 75-50 loss at the Haddix Center in Crete.

Sarah Shepard got the Warriors started in the first quarter with a layup. The Tigers quickly responded with a 16-3 run to put pressure on their guests. Aryannah Harrison broke the Warriors’ scoreless drought with a three-pointer, looking to build momentum. Doane continued to bring the heat going on a 5-3 run to lead 21-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Gabby Beauperthuy sparked the Warriors in the second quarter, scoring six points in an 8-3 run to cut into the gap. Doane responded with a 5-0 run to push their lead back to double-digits. The teams began to match points as the end of the half drew near. The Tigers ended the quarter with a three-pointer to take a 37-25 advantage into the locker room.

After the intermission, Beauperthuy started the Warriors off in the third quarter with a layup which started an 8-2 run. The Tigers quickly fired back up with a 13-2 run of their own to extend their lead up to 18. After trading points at the free throw line, Doane went up by 20, 57-37, heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

Midland opened the final quarter on a 6-3 run but was unable to gain traction as the Tigers responded on a 15-7 run. The Warriors came up short as Doane cruised to the 75-50.

Aryannah Harrison led the Warriors with 13 points. She was followed by Sarah Shepard with 11 and Gabby Beauperthuy with 8. Beauperthuy added seven rebounds to lead the team while Jenna Weber pulled in five to go along with three steals.

For the game, Midland shot 16-of-50 (32%) while Doane shot 25-of-63 (39.7%). The Tigers won the turnover battle, forcing 17 while committing 14 themselves, and had 18 points off of turnovers.

Midland (2-8, 0-6 GPAC) will travel to Sioux City, Iowa to face Morningside (6-4, 3-3 GPAC) in its final conference matchup of 2023. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 9 at the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center.
