Merlyn L. ‘Tobe’ Bode, 84, of Fremont died Saturday Dec. 2, 2023 at Nye Pointe in Fremont.

 

Tobe was born Jan. 3, 1939, in Scribner to Leland and Vivian ‘Hansen’ Bode. He was raised on the family farm southwest of Scribner. He graduated from Scribner High School. Tobe worked for the Scribner Co-op for more than 20 years while continuing to farm the home place. He eventually moved to Fremont but continued to farm. He met Sharon McCabe and for 47 years, until her death this March, they were partners in life. They travelled all over the world together and spent a lot of time going out to events. Tobe loved to dance, and go to movies. He went to several each week for the last several years. He enjoyed baseball and going out to eat following a routine of going to the same place on the same day. He had a routine and was set in his ways.

 

Tobe was a member of the Fremont First United Methodist Church.

Brother – Keith Bode of Fremont

Sister – Jane (Myron) Fischer of Scribner

Brother-in-law – Dean Beck of Scribner

Nieces and nephews

 

Tobe was preceded in death by his life partner Sharon McCabe, sister Joan Beck, sister-in-law Sheryl ‘Sherry’ Bode and his parents.

 

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, at the Fremont First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel with the family present from 6 to 8.
