Joyce L. Gumb, 94, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont.
She was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Fremont, to Lawrence and Mable (Kruger) Knoell. She graduated from Hooper High School in 1946. On Jan. 18, 1949, Joyce married Harold Gumb Jr. in Fremont. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2007.
Joyce was employed at Schweser’s in Fremont and Kmart and retired in 1989. Joyce was an avid Husker fan and she enjoyed bowling. Joyce was on the Wednesday night bowling league for more than 30 years. She loved attending her sons and grandsons sporting events. Some of her other favorite hobbies included crossword puzzles, watching football, coloring, and making scrapbooks for family accomplishments.
Joyce is survived by her sons, John (Nancy) Gumb of Kearney, Joe Gumb of Lincoln, and Glenn (Susan) Gumb of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter, Nancy Bogenreif and significant other Fred Hirsch of Fremont; brother, Gary (Judy) Knoell of Fremont; sister-in-law, Cathy Simon of Gothenburg; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; sister, Roberta (Jim) Reeves; brothers, Loren (Joanne) Knoell, Gene (Ruth) Kruger; great grandson, Jackson Vernon; son-in-law, Mike Bogenreif; and brother-in-law, W.A. Simon.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, at Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Al Duminy will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. The burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
