The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal one-vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday morning.
At about 6:06 a.m., dispatchers received a call in reference to an accident on County Road 10 between Eighth Street and County Road L, just south of Mead.
The preliminary accident investigation indicates that a 2010 Ford F250 was northbound on County Road 10 when it went off the road right, overcorrected, and went off road left, rolling and ended up in the west ditch on its top.
The driver of the vehicle, Madisyn Haack, 23, of Bennington was transported via LifeNet helicopter to UNMC Omaha in critical condition. The passenger, Bryce Budz, 23, of Ashland was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the accident and the investigation is ongoing . Restraints were in use by the passenger but not the driver.
Mead Fire and Rescue, Yutan Fire and Rescue, Wahoo Fire and Rescue, and LifeNet all assisted on the scene.
