Chris Madsen is seeking some volunteers for the Avenue of Flags.

Madsen, chairman of Fremont’s Veterans Park and also an Avenue of Flags organizer, said Saturday’s event is a tribute to Veteran’s Day. This will be the final holiday that the flags will be displayed in 2023.

The flags traditionally line a stretch of Military Avenue for various holidays, including Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day. About 350 casket flags are displayed.

Volunteers are needed to set up at 7:45 a.m. and then take down at 3:45 p.m. If you are interested in helping, contact Madsen at 402-541-4482.

A Veteran’s Day ceremony is also scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at Veterans Park. Fremont Mayor Joey Spellerberg is among the scheduled speakers. Officials will also officially unveil the Freedom Rock memorial. The rock, painted by artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen, has been available for viewing since earlier this fall. While there is a Freedom Rock in every county in Iowa, there are only three in Nebraska.
