Supervisors approve name change for Old U.S. Highway 30

Old U.S. Highway 30 is operating under a new name.

The Dodge County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday morning unanimously adopted a resolution renaming the highway Platte River Road.

Supervisor Pat Tawney said the move came about after talking with various officials, including Shelly Holzerland, the director of emergency communications; Scott Huppert, the highway superintendent; and Jean Andrews, zoning administrator.

County Road U was considered as a name earlier this year, but officials ran into a postal issue and that idea was dropped.

“So we sent a list of names to Shelly with possible ideas,” Tawney said. “Platte River Road was one that hadn’t been used in her jurisdiction so we kicked it forward to the City of Fremont as well as the postal services in Fremont and North Bend.”

Tawney said Fremont City officials relayed that they were fine with the new name.

“We talked with Jean and Scott to make a new resolution to amend the one from County Road U to Platte River Road,” he said. “That’s where we are today.”

Tawney noted that the name has been well received in the public. Chairman Bob Missel agrees.

“This has been a bumpy road getting to this point,” Missel said. “But I have received very good feedback on the name, maybe more so than County Road U.”
