FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University took the pitch for its final regular season game against Mount Marty University on a Saturday afternoon. Prior to the contest, they recognized their 2023 senior class of 11 student-athletes. Despite cold temperatures in the low 30s, the Warriors’ offense provided plenty of heat as they shut out the Lancers, 10-0. The victory moves their regular season record to 10-4-4 overall and 7-2-3 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). The effort puts them third in the standings, giving them the honor of hosting a first-round match in the GPAC Tournament next week.

Hanna Schimmer started the Warriors’ momentum early with a goal in the 7th minute. Midland added to its tally regularly, putting five goals on the board in the first 45 minutes while holding Mount Marty to a pair of shots in the half. Scoring for the Warriors was Caytlynn Garland (26′) assisted by Aminata Lewis, Emma Andersen (37′) assisted by Schimmer, and Sydney Herren (39′) assisted by Schimmer.

After the intermission, the Warriors did not let the cold weather cool their attack as they continued to bring the heat, matching their first-half scoring with five goals to earn the 10-0 shutout victory.

Lewis scored twice (58′, 61′) off assists from Schimmer and Shana Brown, Schimmer had a pair of goals as well (64′, 77′), and Garland picked up a goal (74′) of an assist by Tia Benjamin.

Midland was dominant in shot attempts, 31-3, with 12 of its shots on frame.

Kyla Pires started in goal and played 85 minutes to earn the win and picked up one save. Genevieve Drummond came in to play the final five minutes to combine for the team shutout.

“We’re happy for our seniors to be able to celebrate their day with such a big win. It was nice to get most of the girls into the game as well,” commented interim head coach Tatum Tremain. “Overall, it was a good night for the Warriors. Onto the conference tournament now.”

Third-seeded Midland (7-2-3) will host the sixth-seeded College of Saint Mary (7-5-5) next week in the first round of the GPAC Tournament. The matchup is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Heedum Field on Thursday, November 2.
