An event that was conducted in Fremont for 30 years has come to a close.
Christensen Field Task Force President Jahn Grandstaff announced on Thursday that the Fremont Bull Riding Classic will no longer take place. Funds raised through the event contributed to various projects to improve Christensen Field.
In a press release, Grandstaff said the decision to discontinue the Classic was not made lightly. He said various factors, including growing out of pocket expenses and logistical constraints, made it increasingly difficult to continue the event in a way that maintains the Classic’s high standards.
According to the release, Grandstaff said the City of Fremont has been “a terrific partner” for the event, but over the past few years that support has diminished greatly. He said officials explored numerous avenues to keep the event going, but regrettably, it is no longer sustainable.
Grandstaff went on to thank everyone connected to the Classic through the years, including sponsors, volunteers, riders and spectators. He said the unwavering support has made a “significant difference in the lives of many.”
