Dodge County GOP endorses state school board candidate

ne-gop

Dodge County Republicans met Monday night at the LA Fireproof Door Company in Fremont with chairman Scott Eveland leading the meeting.

The chairman introduced Lisa Schonhoff, a District 3 candidate for the State Board of Education. Schonhoff lives in Bennington and is an educator.

Schonhoff plans to support policies that  increase local control, leading to better teaching procedures in the areas of literacy, math and classic fundamentals.

A motion for endorsement by the Dodge County Republican Party was made by retired educator Rosie Parde and seconded by John Grothusen. The motion passed unanimously.

Fremont Mayor Joey Spellerberg reported positive activity on the Port Authority. He also discussed the ongoing considerations for two new fire stations in the city — one of the east side and the other on the west. Other plans include the resurfacing of Broad Street and improving the timing of the Broad Street traffic lights.

Dodge County Board of Supervisors Chairman Bob Missel said state and U.S. Post Office officials are discussing the renaming of the old U.S. Highway 30 west of Fremont. A possibility is Platte River Road.

The next Dodge County GOP meeting is scheduled for Jan. 22.
