Leland Gohlmann of Fremont won $1 million recently playing Powerball from the Nebraska Lottery.

Gohlmann purchased his ticket at Casey’s Convenience Store at 401 W. 23rd St. in Fremont. The ticket contained single quick pick play for the Oct. 14 drawing which matched all of the five winning numbers (14, 16, 42, 48, 64), but not the Powerball (17).

Gohlmann and his wife, Jeri, claimed their prize at the Nebraska Lottery’s Lincoln office on Oct. 19.

While he does play occasionally, he’s not usually the most regular Powerball player. In fact, he only bought the ticket because he was feeling a little thirsty after filling up his tank.

“I was getting gas and I decided to get a pop,” Gohlmann said. “While I was in there, I thought I might as well get a ticket.”

The morning after the drawing, they were hearing rumors that there was a $1 million winner in Fremont, right at the Casey’s where he bought his ticket.

Gohlmann called the Nebraska Lottery, checked his ticket and went to tell his wife the good news.

“He was so calm,” Jeri said. “I just didn’t believe it.”
