Marie Weaklend, 100, of Fremont, formerly Glidden, Iowa, passed away Tuesday Oct. 17, 2023, at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont. She was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Woodburn, Iowa, to Roy and Myrtle (Terrill) Bishop.
Dorothy Marie married Robert Weaklend on April 11, 1943 in Princeton, Missouri. They lived at Osceola, Iowa, from 1943 to 1963 when they moved to Glidden. In 1986 they started to winter in Apachee Junction, Arizona. Robert passed away in January of 2001. Marie didn’t stop wintering in Arizona until 2020 when she moved to Fremont full time.
She was a former member of the Glidden (Iowa) United Methodist Church and a Life Member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Marie is survived by her sons, Ron (Cindy) Weaklend of Fremont and David (Bonnie) Weaklend of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Mike (Mandy) Weaklend, Melea (Chuck) Ellingson, Miranda (Bryan) Haugrud, Matt (Stacy) Weaklend, Jeff (Jaime) Weaklend and Tom (Crystal) Weaklend; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; three brothers, Raymond, Orville, and Lawrence Bishop; and two sisters, Ruby and Eva.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola, Iowa. Online condolences may be left at www.mosermemorialchapels.com.
