Lee Ashbrook, 83, of Fremont passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. He was born July 29, 1940, in Omaha to Oscar and Ida (Hille) Ashbrook.

Lee lived in Omaha until 1945 when his family moved to an acreage near Hooper. He graduated from Hooper High School. He took advantage of all of the creeks, rivers, streams and fields for hunting, trapping, and his passion for fishing. There was not a sport or game that he didn’t enjoy. He was especially proud of was playing tennis in high school. Lee married his wife of 61 years, Janet Benjamin on Aug. 16, 1962, in Marysville, Kansas. They came to Fremont in 1962. After several demanding jobs, because he was very independent, he decided to start his own business. Together he and Janet had a used car dealership LA Auto in Fremont for 21years. Lee retired in 2001.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of Fremont; sons, Tom (Cia) Ashbrook of Perry, Kansas, Tim (Brenna) Ashbrook of Omaha and Trev Ashbrook of Valley; six loved and adored grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Willis (Terry) Smith of Dixon, Illinois and Ron (Barb) Ashbrook of Omaha; brother-in-law, Aaron (Dawn) Neuhalfen of Topeka, KS; sister-in-law, Lorette Johnson of Apple Valley, CA; many special nieces and nephews.
