SEWARD, Neb. – Midland University traveled to Seward, Nebraska to take on Concordia University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup on a Wednesday evening. The Warriors (3-6-1, 1-2-1 GPAC) fell to the unbeaten Bulldogs (9-0-1, 3-0-1 GPAC) by a score of 4-1.
Concordia took the early advantage with a goal in the 6th minute off a misplayed ball in the defensive third to take the lead 1-0. They boosted their lead with a goal in the 23rd minute off a set-piece off a corner kick.
The Warriors struggled to come together in the first half, heading into halftime trailing two goals. The Bulldogs held an 8-3 advantage in shots through the first period, with 5 shots on frame.
After the intermission, Concordia continued to assert its dominance. In the 67th minute, they scored for the third time of the night as another set piece yielded a header to the back of the net.
Midland avoided the shutout as Colin Macke found his way onto the scoring ledger in the 88th minute. Colton Costello was able to take control of the ball near midfield and sprinted up the right sideline. He flicked a forward pass to Macke who shouldered past the last line of defense. Macke made the keeper come off his line and then tapped in the goal to narrow the Bulldogs’ lead.
Concordia quickly responded with its fourth goal of the night a mere 17 seconds later.
Marco Moresco took the loss in net for the Warriors. He went played the full 90 minutes, picking up six saves on the night.
Midland (3-6-1, 1-2-1 GPAC) will have nearly a week’s long break before returning to play on the road against Hastings (4-5-1, 3-1) next Wednesday. The GPAC matchup is set for 5:30 p.m. on October 4 at Lloyd Wilson Field in Hastings, Neb.
