SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – Midland University traveled up to Sioux Center, Iowa to take on Dordt University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup on a Saturday afternoon. Forecasted thunderstorms forced the teams inside the American State Bank Sports Complex where the Warriors fell 3-1 to the Defenders.
Dordt took the early advantage with a goal in the 23rd minute. Shortly after, it added to the scoresheet with a second goal in the 37th minute. The Defenders took the 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
After the intermission, the Warriors struggled to come together as the Defenders scored their third goal of the game in the 66th minute.
With time winding down, Cornelius Strehl was able to break open the visitor’s scoring column as he scored off a free kick from Colton Costello with under a minute to go.
Dordt takes the 3-1 win over Midland, as it had a slight advantage in shot attempts 12-9 on the afternoon. The teams were event, 6-6, with shots on frame.
Marco Moresco picked up six saves on the day, going the compete 90 minutes in goal.
Midland (4-5-1, 1-2-1) will travel to Seward, Nebraska next week to take on Concordia (8-0-1, 2-0-1) in a GPAC matchup. The match between the rivals is set for 5:30 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium on Wednesday, September 27th.
