Larry “Shorty” L. Pierce 87 of Fremont passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. He was born Jan. 2, 1936, at Green Hollow, (Thurman) Iowa to Clayton and Ella Mae (Hummel) Pierce.
He grew up in Plattsmouth and was a 1954 graduate of Plattsmouth High School. Shorty came to Fremont in the early 1960s. He was a mason / brick layer until his retirement. Larry married Rita Wruble Nov. 1, 1967 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont.
He led a quiet life, loved to fish and hunt and loved to show his pride and joy a 1935 Dodge pickup. He was a member of the Mason Bricklayer Union and also played fast-pitch softball over the years.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Marvin, Donnie and Sammy Pierce.
Survived by his wife, Rita of Fremont; son, John Lyndon (Maria) Pierce of Kansas City, Missouri, and sons, Joseph, Benjamin and Samuel Pierce and daughter, Abigail Pierce; daughters, Twila Pierce and son, Ryan Pendraft and Kitty Schiller and sons, Sage and Jade all of Omaha, and Mary Kate (Cody) Chapman, and children, Sophia and Ean Muth, Faith and Mareasa Chapman; and great-granddaughter, Evelyn Hooks all of Fremont.
Memorial Service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary/Vigil service at 7, also at Moser’s.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont at a later date.
