FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University opened the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play on home turf against the University of Jamestown on Thursday night. The Warriors and Jimmies played to a 0-0 draw, each earning a point for the conference standings. With the result, Midland moves to 2-3-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the GPAC.
The teams were evenly matched throughout the match. Midland held a slight edge in shot attempts 11-10, with 7 shots on frame. Both teams had solid defensive strategies as they battled it out physically. The coarse play resulted in 21 fouls throughout 90 minutes of play on the pitch.
Marco Moresco earned the shutout. He went the full 90 minutes in goal and had four saves on the night.
“We were proud of the effort by our defense in getting the clean sheet,” said head coach Josh Nakayama. “Offensively, we had several chances. We need to start finding a way to put the ball in the back of the net.”
Midland (2-3-1, 0-0-1) will remain at home for its next contest. They’ll be back in action against Waldorf (0-4-1,0-1) on Saturday, September 16. The GPAC matchup is scheduled for first touch at 5:00 p.m. in Fremont.
