MARSHALL, Mo. – Midland University traveled to Marshall, Missouri to take on the No. 17-ranked Missouri Valley College on a Saturday night. The Warriors played the Vikings close all night but ultimately fell, 2-1.
MVC got the early advantage with a goal in the 8th minute. Moments later, the equalizing goal from MU came from Eloy Demarquet with an assist by Colton Costello in the 10th minute.
The quick start to the scoring column continued as the Vikings added another tally to the board with a goal in the 12th minute. Things slowed down after that as Missouri Valley took the 2-1 lead over Midland into halftime.
After the intermission, the defenses stood tall. The Warriors were unable to make a comeback as the Vikings held them to just two shots for the final period. The Vikings held a substantial lead on shot attempts for the game, 17-6, with a 6-2 on-frame advantage.
Marco Moresco played the full 90 minutes in goal, picking up six saves on the night.
Midland (2-3-0) will begin conference play on home turf next week. They’ll open against Jamestown (1-4-1) on Thursday, September 14. The Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup is set for a 5:00 p.m. start at Heedum Field in Fremont.
