Andrew George Svendgard Jr., 86, of Fremont, passed away Sept. 8, 2023, at Dunklau Gardens.

 

Andy was born the sixth of 8 children on June 14, 1937, to Andrew Sr. and Mildred (Blomberg) in Blair. He attended March country school before graduating from Blair High School and then attended Dana College.

 

He grew up on the family farm then had various jobs in construction and insurance sales. He was hired as a teller in 1966 at Arlington State Bank which was the beginning of a long career in banking. He was promoted to cashier, head cashier, and then to president in 1974. Andy was the driving force for the expansion of then Arlington State Bank to open a branch in Blair that became Two Rivers Bank and now RVR Bank. He retired from active operations in December of 1997 and then from the bank’s board of directors in 2006.

 

Andy was an active member on many other boards including Arlington School Board, Arlington City Council, Arlington Town Board, and was president of the Community Club. He was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

 

He served as Worshipful Grand Master of the Arlington Masonic Lodge and was awarded a 50-year membership pin from Fremont Masonic Lodge No. 15 after his move to Fremont.

 

He will be remembered for time spent teaching his grandsons the love of his interests like fishing, hunting, trap shooting and golf. He was a long term member of the Fremont Country Club and received three trophies for “Hole In Ones” during his golfing career. One of the great joys of his life was being a private pilot and was lucky enough to be in a partnership of a plane which he dearly loved to fly.

 

Andy married Carol Lenon October 13, 1973. She survives him. He is also survived by daughters Tami (Brian) Johnson, of Arlington, Patti Svendgard of Fremont and Mindy (Ben) Misfeldt of Arlington. Grandchildren are Sherri Svendgard, Cody (Carly) Johnson, Curt (Lexi) Johnson, Jason (Jennifer) Vieux, Marissa Vieux (Ray) Foster, Kayla Sullivan, Emma Misfeldt, Andy Misfeldt and Danny Misfeldt, sister, Judy (Dennis) Lum; sister-in-law, LaVonne Lenon; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters and a son, Doug.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Arlington. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington.
