Gale Dixon Phinney of Fremont passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Methodist Fremont Health at the age of 81.
Gale was born July 22, 1941, in Fremont to Clarence and Gladys (Waldstrom) Phinney, the fifth of five children. A lifelong Fremont resident, he attended Fremont Senior High School. He served for four years in the U.S. Army. He returned to Fremont and worked for the Fremont Department of Utilities until his retirement in 1999. Gale married Sharon Kay Phillips in 1969 and they raised a single daughter, Heather.
He loved card games, and never turned down a chance to beat his grandchildren at checkers. An avid gardener, he enjoyed radish sandwiches on rye bread as well as cucumbers and vinegar. Gale took as many trips as possible to the mountains of Colorado, and did some travel early in his retirement with Sharon. He also enjoyed golf and bowling, and listening to country music on the radio.
He will be missed by all of us, but especially by his loving wife of 54 years, Sharon of Fremont; brother Leroy of Twin Falls, Idaho; daughter Heather Winesett of Duluth, Minnesota, and four grandchildren, Noah, Sam, Maggie and Abe.
In death, he joins his parents, and his three sisters, Geneva, Pauline, and Joan.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont with military honors. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
Memorials to the Dodge County Humane Society.
