Eugene L. ‘Gene’ Larsen, 83, of Fremont died Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Nye Pointe in Fremont.
Gene was born March 5, 1940, on the home place northwest of Fremont to Leon and Anna ‘Thomsen’ Larsen. He was raised on the family farm and attended District 42 school through the 8th grade before graduating from Fremont High School in 1957. After high school he joined the United States Army Reserve and served for 6 years. Gene married Sharon Knight on April 24, 1960. Gene worked for the Department of Utilities until 1967 when the family moved back to the family farm, where he farmed until retiring in 2005.
Gene served his community in many ways. He served on the township board, different agriculture boards and for many years served on the school board. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Brother – Duane (Joanne) Larsen of Longmont, Colorado
Sister-in-law – Diane (Glen) Vandenberge of Scottsbluff
Gene was preceded in death by his wife Sharon on January 23, 2016, and a sister Mildred Paseka.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2023, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Ryan Ankersen will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church or American Cancer Society. Visitation will be Sunday, August 6, with the family present from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont.
