Fremont Claims Rubber Game From Sasquatch

Fremont, Nebraska- The Fremont Moo took the rubber game of the series with a 4-2 victory over the Spearfish Sasquatch, Sunday evening, at Historic Moller Field.

 

Fremont took the lead in the bottom of the first.  With one out, Henry Hayman singled off Spearfish starter Nicholas Esparza, then stole second base.  Carter Sintek singled to put runners at first and third.  Then, Tyler Harrington hit a ground ball to shortstop, but an errant throw by Bailey Bordas allowed Harrington to reach and Hayman to score to make it 1-0.

 

Spearfish tied the game in the top of the fourth.  Trey Vorwald hit a 1-0 pitch off Moo starter Trey Nichols over the left field fence to tie the game at 1-1.

 

The Sasquatch extended the lead in the top of the fifth.  Chazz Crook led off with a single.  Three batters later, Seth Nelson hit an RBI double to right field, scoring Crook, to put Spearfish ahead, 2-1.

 

The lead was short lived, however, as Fremont scored two in the bottom of the fifth.  Jayson Willers led off the inning with a single and two batters later, Christian Hobbs doubled to put runners at second and third.  Willers then scored on a wild pitch, to make it 2-2.  The next batter Henry Hayman hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Hobbs to put Fremont ahead 3-2.

 

The Moo extended the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning.  With one out, Carter Sintek drew a walk, then stole second base.  Tyler Harrington then hit an RBI single, scoring Sintek, to put the Moo up 4-2.

 

Fremont reliever Braden Sweet finished up the outing after pitching the eighth, and closed out the ninth.  Sweet got Bailey Bordas to ground out to short and Chazz Crook to fly out to center field.  Then on a 3-2 fastball, Sweet struck out pinch-hitter Jack Sutton to end the game.

 

Moo starter Trey Nichols (5-0) picked up the win.  The Bowling Green, Missouri native at Midland University pitched 7.0 innings giving up four hits, two runs, walked four, struck out four and gave up the home run to Trey Vorwald in the fourth inning.  Braden Sweet (1) earned the save.  The Omaha native at Iowa Western Community College pitched 2.0 innings.  He walked two and struck out two.

 

Spearfish starter Nicholas Esparza (1-4) took the loss.  He pitched 7.1 innings giving up seven hits, three earned runs, walked one, struck out four, had two wild pitches and hit two batters.  Joe McBride pitched 0.2 innings and struck out one.

 

Offensively, Fremont’s Henry Hayman was 1-for-4.  The Melbourne, Australia native via Barton County Community College, drove in one run.  Tyler Harrington was 2-for-4.  The Lakeland, Tennessee native headed to UAB had one RBI.

 

For Spearfish, Seth Nelson was 1-for-4 with one RBI.  Trey Vorwald was 1-for-3 with a solo home run.

 

More Information:  Fremont took the final game of the three-game set versus Spearfish and won the series over the Sasquatch.  With a single in the bottom of the first, Henry Hayman ran his hitting streak to seven straight games.
