Charles H. McKenzie, age 90, of Fremont died Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at the Florence Home in Omaha.
Charles was born Nov. 4, 1932 ,in Fremont to Joseph and Bernice ‘Snodgrass’ McKenzie. He attended Fremont Jr. and Sr. High school. Charles married Margy Meier on Feb. 1, 1953, at the Methodist Church in Hooper. Charles had been drafted and two weeks after his marriage he joined the U.S. Army and was sent to Seoul, South Korea, and served as a quartermaster. He served 18 months and then returned to the United States. He then attended Milford Trade School and studied electricity and electronics. He graduated in 1958 and later went to work for the IBEW Local No. 22 in Omaha.
Charles enjoyed music and sang in many barbershop quartets. His latest quartet was “The Vocalmotives” and their most requested song was “Babyface”.
Charles is survived by his wife of 70 years, Margy, of Fremont, sons Michael, Roger, Douglas and Bryan (Angie) all of Fremont, two grandchildren Melissa (Cory) Dunn, Matthew (Anna) McKenzie and four great grandchildren Norah, Sienna, Emelia and Lydia.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ruth Flake.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2023, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. There is no viewing but the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery with military honors.
