Nebraska State Patrol warns of possible scam

The Nebraska State Patrol announced that they have received reports of scam calls with people pretending to be law enforcement.

NSP said the reports have come in from two separate areas in Nebraska so far. The calls reportedly look like they are coming from NSP offices in Grand Island or Lincoln, but in reality they’re not.

Officials said the calls are classified as spoofing, an act of mimicking a phone number when in reality it is a scammer on the line. The caller is reportedly telling the victim that they either have active warrants or need to pay a fine.

According to authorities, this is so they can steal the victim’s personal information. So far, no one has reportedly fallen for the scam calls that have happened in the last few days.

NSP said they would like to remind people to not give out any of their personal or financial information.

“The Nebraska State Patrol never calls members of the public regarding payment of fines or active warrants,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of NSP.
